Job Description:

Summary Work as a professional Dentist in an ambulatory health care center in a family practice setting. Diagnose and treat problems with patients' teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth. Advise on taking care of the teeth and gums.

We are accepting applications year-round with eligible applicants being placed on a standing register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur with referral at multiple grade levels and locations. Referral is based on the date management request is received. Duties

  • Examine and makes diagnoses and prescribes treatment plans for patients.
  • Recognize and refer patients for specialty treatment as required.
  • Perform dental services which include operative, endodontics, dental public health, oral surgery, periodontics and prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Advise Tribal and other lay groups on all matters pertaining to oral health. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination.

    Title 38 Physician, Dentists and Podiatrist Pay. Overtime payments or Compensation time is not paid for . Instead, a component of salary is intended to reflect compensation based on recruitment and retention needs for the specialty or assignment of a particular dentist or physician.

    Individual Occupational Requirements:
    These standards describe the minimum qualification requirements (for example, educational, medical, age, experience, etc.) for each occupational series.     BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

    Education:
    Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the or the or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.

    Licensure:
    Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level.

    Experience for the GS-12 level
    For the GS-12 level, in addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience for this position, at this grade level, involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

    Additional Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
    In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants (for the GS-12 grade level) must complete a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.

    Medical Requirements
    Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color in addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    GS-11: Your resume and supporting documents (copy of unofficial transcripts and copy or professional license) must demonstrate basic requirements for education and licensure.

    GS-12:
    • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: performing a full range of professional dental duties requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventive measures; diagnoses and administers treatment for dental diseases and dental health problems of greater-than-usual difficulty; and dealing with dental health cases presenting patient-behavior and communication problems. ORYou must demonstrate completed 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.

      Time In Grade
      Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
